S.T.E.A.M week in a Room 10

This week in first class we did loads of activities for S.T.E.A.M week (science, technology, engineering, arts and maths). We did two science experiments. One testing our hearing and how to protect our ears from noise and for the second one we made our own lava lamps. They learnt loads and made loads of discoveries.

For technology they got to do some coding with the beebots. They designed a maze with blocks, for their beebots to travel through. They used great problem solving skills! As a class we then used the story of the three little pigs. The beebots had to follow the path to get the beebots to each of the pigs houses.

For engineering and arts the class tried to design and built their own houses with sticks and marshmallows. They then had to test their structure by banging the table to see if it stayed standing.

This was a lot harder than it sounded! The children discovered that it would work better if they had bigger marshmallows.

We also played loads of maths games during the week.

As a special treat at the end of the week, Ms. Golden came in to do a Lego camp with us. This incorporated loads of S.T.E.A.M skills with construction, design, building, using mathematical language and using the hexbugs to travel their maze.
