About Our Provision for children in Special Classes

Our Special Class provision consists of 5 specialised classes for children with a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder, one Early Intervention Class ( age 3-5 years) and four primary  classes . A child will need to have a recommendation from a clinical team to attend a specialised class. For all queries in relation to our places for children in the these classes please contact vanessa.golden@olocschool.ie . The NCSE ( National Council for Special Education)  offer support to parents when their child is diagnosed with autism and have developed the following handouts for parents to support the transition to school.

Our Approach

The class size ratio with one teacher and two special needs assistants to every six children allows us to deliver a very personalised and tailored education to meet the individual needs of each child.

In line with our policy on inclusion,  children in these classes are  included  into our mainstream classes wherever possible and we have seen the benefits that this can bring to the school as a whole.
